Laura Mellberg moved from the San Francisco Bay Area to Bluffton, a charming coastal town near Hilton Head Island. She has lived in England and in every time zone in the continental US which enhances her perspective when building a college list for students.
She recently went through the college application process with her two teenagers and fully understands the challenges and range of emotions attached to the experience as a parent.
Laura's organized yet laid-back approach is tailor-made for college counseling. Bite-sized tasks and clear deadlines are built into her program, and she teaches valuable life skills along the way. Her enthusiasm for admissions planning is clearly visible throughout her work.
Thirteen years of travel writing sparked Laura's curiosity about people and places and crystallized her love for storytelling. She shows students how to convey their accomplishments and personality through college essays and applications in an effective and engaging way.
Laura earned a B.A. in English from Colorado College and a graduate certificate with distinction from UCLA in college counseling. She has visited more than 100 college campuses and mentors new college counselors. Laura served as a virtual college coach for nonprofit ScholarMatch, designed and led a college essay workshop for a local high school, and read for a competitive college scholarship award. She is on the Member Advisory Board for software company CollegePlannerPro.
